       1.   Launch the computer's Web browser (usually by double clicking the browser icon on the desktop).

       2.   In the space labeled "Location," type in the following URL (Universal Resource Locator, i.e., the address of the Web Site) and then hit the "Enter" key:

http://schulkin.org/amciv.html

       3.   Or you can simply click on the "hot link" provided above.

       4.   In either case, you will be transported to the page entitled "American Civilization Web Sites Worth Visiting."

       5.   Read through the list of sites and, when you come to one which interests you, click on the underlined URL and visit the site.

       6.   The object of your search is to find a Web site which you might be interested in using as an important source for a research paper.

       7.   From the sites you visit, CHOOSE THE ONE WHICH INTERESTS YOU THE MOST AS A POTENTIAL SOURCE FOR A RESEARCH PAPER.

       8.   Examine your chosen site carefully and in detail.

       9.   After consulting one or more of the evaluation aids linked here ( Evaluating Websites: Criteria for the Classroom,    Methods of Evaluation,    Thinking Critically about World Wide Web Resources,    and    Online English Degree Resources: Web and Content Evaluation ), write an evaluation of the Web site you have chosen.

       10.   You should evaluate the site of your choice both as a Web site and as a potential source for a research paper.

       11.   Your evaluation should be double spaced and word processed in a 12 point font.    It should be approximately 750 words in length and it should be submitted in class no later than one week after you have completed this exercise.
