   DO write your paper in the diction found in the primary sources.

   DO bring each character to life by making his/her personality and character shine through.

   DO make each character act or speak out his/her position in lively encounters.

   DO base much of your dialogue and/or written exchanges on primary sources.

   DO incorporate others from the "Revolutionary Generation" to add meaning to your story.

   DO invent and incorporate fictional characters when necessary to keep your story interesting.

   DO invent plausible fictional encounters when necessary to keep your story interesting.

Dont's

   DON'T sacrifice human interest to achieve 100% historical accuracy.

   DON'T be cerebral, that is, don't tell about what a character is thinking.

   DON'T base your entire paper exclusively on primary sources.

   DON'T invent fictional characters when actual historical figures are readily available.

   DON'T invent fictional encounters when actual events are equally interesting.
