What Are You Looking For in a College?
When you have finished taking stock of what you have already accomplished, you should then begin thinking about what you are looking for in a college, about what kind of college will best meet your needs. At this point
in time you should begin asking yourself such questions as:
Would I learn best at a large university or a small liberal arts college or at some kind of mid-sized institution?
Would I prefer to attend college in a major urban area? In a suburban area? In a small town or rural area?
Are there particular regions of the United States that I would find more enjoyable or where I would feel more comfortable than others?
What subject or subjects would I prefer to study or major in?
Do I have a tentative career goal as yet (such as Pre-Med, Pre-Law, Business, Architecture or Engineering)?
Is it important to me that the college I attend have a large Asian or Asian-American presence on its campus?
Do I have a special talent, athletic, musical or artistic, that might help me gain admission to a competitive U.S. college?
Will my family need financial assistance to enable me to attend college in the U.S.?
How important is it to me to go to college in the U.S.? Is it so important to me that I would be willing to enroll at a less competitive, less prestigious college or university if I am unable to gain admission to a well known college or university?
